Dr. Maya Angelou is best known for her poems and essays, Maya Angelou was a true  21st century Rennaisance woman. She passed on Wednesday May 28, at the age of 86.  
As a poet, author, memoirist, dancer,playwright, director, performer, actress, professor, producer, mother, singer and civil right's activist, "I have created myself," she told USA Today. "I have taught myself so much." 
One of her most popular and well know books ,"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" was published in 1969, it lyrically recounted her years growing up in the Jim Crow South. Her memoir was one of the first autobiographies by a 20th century African American woman to reach a mainstream readership. Despite her brilliant work, several attempts were made to ban her books from some US libraries, but her works are widely used in schools and universities worldwide.
Dr. Maya was known to challenge the common structure of the autobiography by critiquing,changing, and expanding the genre. Most of her books center on racism,self identity, love,family and travel. 
Maya was a prolific and successful poet.She was called the "Black Woman's Poet Laureate' , and her poems as been dubbed as "the anthems of African Americans".
In addition to her six volumes of autobiographies, Dr.Angelou was also know for her iconic poems including "Still I Rise," which Nelson Mandela read aloud at his presidential inauguration. 
Dr. Maya Angelou may be gone but her spirit and her beautiful and powerful words of wisdom will live on forever. Her best advice can teach us how to live our lives better and how to be conscious of the words we choose to speak, to write, and to live by.

www.Ladiesfashionsense.com is deeply saddened as we learned about the passing of one our beloved poets, Maya Angelou. While Dr. Angelou's body may be gone, her beautiful and kind spirit along with her loving words  and wisdom will resonate forever.

Dr. Maya was one of the first guests who appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s Master Class on June 16 ,2011.  
She explored the mysteries of her creative process, the "Power Of Words" and  how love liberate us. She described how words enter our walls, our clothing, and infiltrates. Words are extremely powerful. They stay with people; they can shape people and sometimes they change people.

Dr. Angelou opened up like never before as she described the traumatic events of her childhood and the courage she found to overcome them. The legend offered her best wisdom, abundant advice and the lessons she was still learning at age 82.

Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Ann Johnson on April 4, 1928 in Saint Louis, Missouri. The award-winning author, renowed poet and civil rights activist Dr. Maya Angelou passed on her Winston-Salem, N.C ,home Wednesday morning (5/28/2014). She was 86 years old. She was a prolific African-American author, poet,  dancer ,  singer, actress, memoirist, poet, director, and cook . 





She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning more than fifty years.

She received dozens of awards which include two Presidential Medal Awards; a Presidential National Medal of Arts by former President Bill Clinton and one Presidential Medal Of Freedom from President Obama.
